JASON CARTER
Soloist

Born in Central Queensland, Australia, Jason started dancing when he was 5, coached by Sandra Pincham in the RAD syllabus. Jason was accepted into the New Zealand School of Dance for the classical course in 2008 and started his training at the school in 2009. He appeared in a range of performances by the school including Company B by Paul Taylor, NapoliEvening Songs and Continuo. He graduated at the end of 2011, and joined SDT as an apprentice in January 2012 and was promoted to Artist in September 2012.

His repertoire includes Paquita pas de trois, Cavalier, Shepherd and Spanish in The Nutcracker, Toreadors and Gamache in Don Quixote, Puss in Boots in Sleeping Beauty, Bournonville Divertissements (Folk Tale pas de sept and Tarantella), Raymonda Divertissments, Spanish in Swan Lake (2015, 2019), Coppelia and most recently the principal role of Albrecht in Giselle.

Other works include Organ Concerto, ZIN!, Fearful Symmetries, Symphony in Three Movements, Shadow’s Edge, Incomparable Beauty, Lamberena, Swipe, Opus 25, Age of Innocence, The Winds of Zephyrus, Serenade, Allegro Brillante, Rubies, Theme and Variations, Phlegmatic in The Four Temperaments, 4Seasons, Jabula, Schubert Symphony, Piano Concerto No.2, Opus 102, Sticks and Stones, Another Energy, Midnight Waltzes, Blue Snow, Peter & BlueUnexpected BLinea AdoraSYNC and 13th Heaven.

Jason was promoted to Soloist in January 2017. He most recently performed his debut role in Romeo and Juliet (2020) as Benvolio.
