Mai was offered the Royal Ballet School’s full scholarship after attending Royal Ballet Upper School summer course in London, and completed her professional ballet training at the New National Theatre Ballet School in Japan from 2009 to 2013.

During her training period in Japan, her dance highlights include Clara in The Nutcracker, Sylphide in La Sylphide, Pearl in The Ocean and Pearls, and Aurora’s pas de deux in Act 3 of Sleeping Beauty, amongst others.

Upon graduating from New National Theatre Tokyo Ballet School, Mai took part in Symphony in C, Don Quixote at the National Ballet of Japan in the 2012/2013 season. She joined the National Ballet of Japan as a full-time dancer in 2013/2014 season under Artistic Director, David Bintley, and danced in The Firebird, The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, David Bintley’s The Prince of the Pagodas.

In October 2014, Mai joined SDT as a full-time Artist, and performed in Don Quixote, Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake and The Nutcracker; as well as Schubert Symphony, Double Contrasts, Opus 25, Rubies, Serenade and Paquita.
