Yayoi is from New Zealand and began her dance training at the age of 8. She studied at the New Zealand School of Dance and performed principal roles in Kenneth McMillan’s Solitaire, Rose Adagio in The Sleeping Beauty, Pas de Trois in Swan Lake, Paquita and Kenneth McMillan’s Concerto. Yayoi was in the Royal New Zealand Ballet Trainee Programme and also competed in The Youth American Grand Prix in 2015 and was a top 20 New York finalist.

In 2016, Yayoi Joined the The Queensland Ballet and performed in productions such as Ben Stevenson’s Nutcracker and Swan Lake, Trey McIntyre’s Peter Pan, Marc Ribaud’s La Fille Ma Gardée, Stephanie Lake’s Chameleon, Amy Hollingsworth’s Glass Heart, Flux and CandaceInterrupted, Greg Horsman’s Verdi Variations, Sleeping Beauty – Blue Bird and Back to Bach, Ma Cong’s Esther Vals, Paul Taylor’s Company B, Derrick Dean’s Strictly Gershwin, Liam Scarlett’s Midsummer Nights Dream.

In 2018, Yayoi moved to London to experience more in the contemporary field and visited companies such as Netherlands Dans Theatre, Batsheva Dance Company, Hofesh Shechter and many more. Yayoi travelled all around Europe participating in courses and intensives before joining the Royal New Zealand Ballet as a guest artist for Val Caniparoli’s Nutcracker.

Yayoi joined SDT as an Artist in January 2019.
