My journey with SDT started when I joined the Ballet Associate’s Course (BAC) at 12 years old. Through BAC, I learned a lot about ballet from Mr Janek Schergen who taught us once a month. It also opened the door for me to perform with SDT, giving me the opportunity to experience what it is like performing with the main company and to understand what it takes to become a professional dancer. With hard work and determination, I progressed on to being a scholar at SDT for 2 years, before accepting a place at the New Zealand School of Dance as a Classical Major in 2017.” – Tania Angelina I was 9 years old when I started BAC. BAC was always something that I looked forward to every month as I will be taught by Mr Janek Schergen; a rare opportunity for me to learn from. I also got to meet other students from other dance schools too. Performing with the professional dancers on stage was something that I liked about the BAC program, it provided as an eye-opener for me in understanding the lives of the professional dancers. Through the program, it has inspired me to work towards the goal of being a professional dancer with SDT. I encourage all young student dancers to join the Ballet Associates Course.” – Felicia Er, Apprentice with Singapore Ballet
