BALLET ASSOCIATES COURSE 2010 @ SINGAPORE DANCE THEATRE

Returning for the second year since its successful run in 2009, Ballet Associates Course (BAC) now has more classes added and performance opportunities for the students! Intended for serious dance students to enhance and develop their dance training and education, BAC is taught by SDT’s Artistic Director, Janek Schergen through a series of master classes held on a regular basis. An audition session will be held for the selection of students, at no additional cost.

Details are as follows:

Advanced Class (14-18 years)
Under the guidance of Janek Schergen, each session will begin with a ballet class taught by Mr Schergen, Xia Hai Ying or a master guest teacher invited to Singapore for the benefit of the students. An additional class will also focus on pointe work, variations or repertory. It will conclude with a presentation of the different facets of dance studies drawn from all related subjects of dance training.

Requirements:

Upper Intermediate/advanced ability in ballet technique (students are required to go on pointe)

Intermediate Level (12-14 Years)

Fees:

$475 (inclusive of GST)

Time:

2.30pm to 4.30pm

Duration:

2 hours (plus ½ hour of coaching class)/session

Requirements:

Intermediate ability in ballet technique + pointe work

Foundation Level (10-12 Years old)

Fees:

$180 (inclusive of GST)

Time:

2.30pm to 4pm

Dates:

27 Feb, 17 Apr, 26 Jun, 21 Aug, 30 Oct, 11 Dec

Duration:

1 and a half hour/session

Requirements:

Intermediate ability in ballet technique

Audition:

7 February 2010, 2pm at SDT, Founder’s Studio

Additional points to note:

  1. From the Ballet Association Course, a group of students will be selected to join the Youth Dancers Singapore in association with Singapore Dance Theatre and National Arts Council. The first performance will take place at the International Youth Dance Festival in Macau in 2010, followed by performances at Ballet Under the Stars.

    Youth Dancers Singapore was established in 2009, with the first performance held at the Seoul International Dance Festival in May 2009 and Ballet Under the Stars 09, as part of the pre-show performance segment.
  2. Do note that extra dancers required for SDT’s performances will be primarily selected from the Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced Level.
  3. Upon completion of the course, all participants will be presented with a Certificate of
    Participation.
  4. At the end of the course, there will be a studio-showing of dance pieces that will be choreographed specially for all students at each level. Please note that, there will be at least 3 extra rehearsal sessions after class (for Foundation and Intermediate Level ONLY) to prepare for the showing. Parents and teachers will be invited for the showcase as well.
