Dance Appreciation Series 2008
Initiated in 2006 as a platform to engage with audiences through an informative and interactive programme structure, the “Dance Appreciation Series” is a collaboration between the Singapore Dance Theatre and The Esplanade to enhance the understanding of dance among new audiences.
| “It has been good working with SDT in educating the students about Dance and the Modern Dance Club dancers in my school have benefited much from the performance they participated in during the Ballet Under the Stars and watching the professionals at work. It made them learn what it was like to perform for the public and realise that it takes a lot of hard work to be as good as the professional dancers. ..... .Having afternoon sessions like the Giselle afternoon special is a good idea as it allows students to learn more about Dance and be more exposed to the industry.”

Duration of each session:
Each DAS session is capped at duration of one hour, allowing it to appeal to the short attention spans of younger audiences and the inexperienced viewer of dance shows.
What to expect for audiences:
Audiences at DAS will get to enjoy excerpts from upcoming main productions of SDT, or get to relive the magical moments of well known classics like The Nutcracker and Swan Lake. Within the format of each session, educational elements such as visual explanations of common terms in dance and ballet are presented, enabling audiences to partake of a taste of SDT's production before they advance to the stage where they are ready to attend a full-length production.
