Here at Singapore Dance Theatre, presenting classical and contemporary choreography is not the only item on our agenda. As Singapore 's premier dance company, we are in the business of cultivating an atmosphere where dance can be celebrated, no matter how old or young you are. Apart from our weekly adult dance classes, the quarterly Dance Appreciation Series (DAS) held at The Esplanade and other Education and Outreach programmes, our highly popular annual outdoor performance Ballet Under the Stars (BUTS) is now an avenue where school students can also promote dance outreach when they share the stage with the company's dancers.

This school platform is an extension of SDT's ongoing efforts to create avenues for budding choreographers to showcase their creations. Last year, school teachers and school students alike had an enjoyable time presenting their dances to the cheering crowd at Fort Canning Green. Not only were they treated to an evening of ballet and contemporary pieces after their own performance, they had an equally enjoyable time partaking in the peripheral activities organized by SDT. These activities ranged from face painting to balloon sculpting. Judging from the smiles on the children's faces, being a performer in BUTS did not disappoint.

This year marks the second year SDT is inviting schools from all over Singapore to take part in the pre-show performance of BUTS. Due to overwhelming responses, we have decided to extend the duration of the pre-show to accommodate more school performances. At present, auditions are ongoing and will continue till the end of June. We will be announcing the list of performing schools on the 1 st of July, so do check our website for updates!
