About the Ball
Based on the popular fairytale, Cinderella, this themed fundraising gala dinner is based on the ballroom scene, where the Prince held his party and met his dream lady – Cinderella.
Jointly presented with the Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations (SCWO), this ball aims to raise funds for both organisations.
The Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations (SCWO) was established in 1980 to serve as the national coordinating body for 56 women’s organisations in Singapore and runs The Star Shelter, which provides temporary refuge for abused women and their families, as well as programmes for the education and enrichment for women. The funds raised will help cover SCWO’s administrative costs for The Star Shelter, IT Hub, Thrift Shop, Womens’ Registrar and 56 women’s organizations. SCWO also promotes awareness amongst women and serves as one of the major NGOs representing women’s voices in Singapore. We are in the about to launch a website to educate women on CEDAW : the Convention for Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women to which Singapore is a signatory at the United Nations and SCWO has to produce a report for Singapore’s work in this area every year to attest to our progress. For more information about SCWO, please visit www.scwo.org.sg.
The Singapore Dance Theatre (SDT) is one of the premier professional dance companies to have emerged from the Asia-Pacific region in recent years. Founded by the late Anthony Then and Goh Soo Khim in June 1988, the Company has grown from seven to 22 dancers hailed mainly from the Asia-Pacific region. It now performs six seasons in a year, including performances at the Esplanade Theatre and the Fort Canning Park, where its widely popular Ballet Under The Stars (BUTS) is staged. Apart from its regular performance seasons, SDT actively organize Outreach activities such as Arts Education Programmes, Dance Appreciation Series, Open rehearsals viewing etc. These efforts aim to make dance more accessible to the masses and spread the beauty, passion and discipline of dance to as many people as possible and place Singapore in the minds of international dance aficionados.
Proceeds from the ball will benefit both organisations in their administrative and daily operating costs.
