Excerpts from The Nutcracker Act II by Jeffrey Tan
Composed by Tchaikovsky and his final ballet, The Nutcracker stars a series of fantastic events in a child’s world that confuse the line between myth and reality during Christmas Eve.
Kingdom of Sweets
The Prince escorts Clara to the Kingdom of Sweets where they are greeted by the Sugar Plum Fairy. The Prince tells her about their daring battle with the army of mice and she rewards them with a celebration of dances.
• The Spanish Dance
• The Arabian Dance
• The Mirliton Dance
• The Russian Dance
• The Chinese Dance
• The Waltz of Flowers
In the Kingdom of Sweets, the celebration of dances culminates in this stunning performance by the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Prince. Specially choreographed by Jeffrey Tan, the Grand Pas De Deux is the highlight of classical ballet, a joyous pairing of the two lovers set to the most wonderful piece of music.
