Goh Choo San is probably the most famous Singaporean choreographer who had garnered worldwide acclaim for his fresh and innovative works. He was awarded the Cultural Medallion in 1987, the highest cultural award in Singapore , as recognition of his choreographic talent and contributions.

Apart from creating a name for himself through his work and choreography, Goh Choo San also had the magnanimity of spirit and foresight to set the wheels in motion to establish a foundation to fund future choreographic endeavours. In 1992, the Choo San Goh & H. Robert Magee Foundation was set up to fund aspiring choreographers and develop their choreographic talents.

With staging by Janek Schergen, SDT celebrates Goh Choo San's legacy in dance and choreography.. In a symbolic reference to his contributions to the international dance arena, past recipients of the Choo San-Goh Awards will stage their tributes to the “Master Craftsman in Dance”.


Prolific dancers from New York City Ballet and National Ballet of Canada will share the stage with our dancers this season featuring choice excerpts from Goh's best-loved repertoire, as well as new works by Graham Lustig, Val Caniparoli, and Christopher Wheeldon.

As part of our Arts Education Programme, SDT and Esplanade are collaborating for the third installment of Dance Appreciation Series (DAS) on The Legacy of Goh Choo San.

Do not miss this heartfelt tribute to Goh Choo San, whose choreography has been performed by many international dance companies and whose generosity fulfilled the dreams of countless others.

Schools are able to use the TOTE Board Arts Grant subsidy of up to 60% of ticket price. Teachers are also entitled to one complimentary ticket for every group booking of 20 students.

Sweet sixteen tickets are not applicable for TOTE Board Arts Grant subsidy.
