Romeo and Juliet

13 – 16 March , Esplanade Theatre

SDT will open the 2014 season with Ballet’s greatest love story, inspired by Shakespeare’s tragedy of two lovers from two feuding families. With expressive choreography by Singaporean mastercraftsman in dance, Goh Choo San, and set to a powerful score by Sergei Prokofiev, this passionate tale of love and tragedy is not to be missed!

 

 

Ballet illuminations : malaysia tour

9 – 11 May, klpac | 16 & 17 May, penangpac

After four successful consecutive years of performances in KLpac, SDT will be making our fifth annual tour back to Malaysia to perform a medley of classical and contemporary performances from the repertoire, sharing some of the Company’s best ballets with the audiences in Malaysia, with additional performances in Penangpac.

 

 

Peter and Blue’s Forest Adventure

Back by popular demand, Peter and Blue’s Forest Adventure is a one-hour children ballet blending elements of a fairy-tale with meaningful morals of love and sharing.

 

 

Ballet Under the Stars

Singapore’s favourite outdoor dance event returns this year with two spectacular weekends of dance. Featuring the world premiere of a new work by Natalie Weir, Chant by Val Caniparoli, The Winds of Zephyrus by Edwaard Liang, Piano Concerto #2, Opus 102 by Edmund Stripe, Theme and Variations by George Balanchine and Opus 25 by Edwaard Liang.

 

 

Masterpiece in Motion

12 – 13 September, NUS University Cultural Centre

SDT’s annual international repertory season features a triple bill of stunning choreography by award-winning choreographers. In its fifth year, Masterpiece in Motion will feature Nils Christe’s breath-taking Fearful Symmetries, Natalie Weir’s vibrant 4Seasons and the company premiere of Val Caniparoli’s riveting and dynamic Swipe.

 

 

Da:ns Festival

18 – 19 October, esplanade theatre studio

In the spirit of celebrating the beauty of movement, this October will see SDT participating in Esplanade’s annual Da:ns Festival. This triple bill of world premieres by three remarkable contemporary choreographers – Christina Chan, Ma Cong and Toru Shimazaki, is sure to be packed with originality and excitement.

 

 

Don Quixote

4 – 7 December, esplanade theatre

A company premiere for SDT, this grand finale to the 2014 season is a treat for all! The ballet follows the heroic adventures of the aged yet inspired knight, Don Quixote, and his devoted squire Sancho Panza. Their paths meet with two lovers – the spirited Kitri and the charming Basilio, who are on a quest to marry. With powerful music by Ludwig Minkus, staging by the legendary Cynthia Harvey and gorgeous costumes by Australian Designer Bruce McKinven, Don Quixote is set to be an explosive, colourful spectacle of glorious dancing.
