Akira began her professional dance training with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet School, which she attended from 2004 to 2009. When she graduated in 2009, Akira joined The Washington School of Ballet. While she was there, she performed in various productions including The Nutcracker, The Great Gatsby, Push Comes to Shove and The Four Temperaments.

Akira joined SDT in October 2010 as an apprentice where she performed in Sleeping Beauty. She performed in all of the 2011 productions including Romeo and Juliet, George Balanchine’s Serenade and the Pas de Quatre in Swan Lake at Ballet Under The Stars, Daniel Robert’s Hold the Fourth, as well as in The Nutcracker. In 2012, Akira performed as one of the swan maidens in Swan Lake, Paquita staged by Janek Schergen, Sleeping Beauty and Coppélia. She also danced in Nils Christe’s ZIN! and George Balanchine’s Divertimento No. 15.

Akira was promoted to the rank of Artist in April 2012.
